Marketing Myself..?You mean Embracing the Ick?

Ring*Ring*Ring*…”Hello…You are a Millionaire & you want to buy all the art I ever make for top dollar???”…Then I wake up. :(

The “starving artist’s” greatest dream. The truth is there is a 99.99% chance that one millionaire is going to be my patron that funds my at career. However, there is a much greater percentage that multiple non billionaires WILL buy a piece of my art, which means I need to get out of my bubble of comfort and let them know I am out here!

1. Marketing Mentor…worth it?

I am investing in my art, not just by going to Michaels or Blick, but by paying for someone’s experience & knowledge. I recently sat with Dean from “Women of Illustration” for a personalized session on what I can do to improve website engagement, how to make my social media work for me, & how to succinctly brand myself.

2. WOW that was hard.

I struggled way harder than I thought I would to figure out what I was trying to convey to my audience. I have never really been great at seeing my style. I remember in College, I picked a art piece to base my latest project on, & everyone in my class was like, yeah, that’s your style, and I said “I have a style?” they replied with “uh, yeah, a very distinct one”. That was the day I learned that I had a style, I would say about 7 years later I actually started to understand what that style was a hone it better.

3. Business Babe Mindset

There is a part of me that hates the idea of putting labels on my work, putting parameters and limits on what I create. The business babe in me knows that is what I need to do to allow myself to grow and develop as a business, I need to have a tribe, a theme, and a purpose with my art. The more I know it the more I can grow it.

Consensus?

Marketing Mentor definitely worth the investment, and it will be a continual investment. It gave me the educational kick in the ass that I need to get my marketing in line. Marketing is how you sell, and I want to sell like the wind baby.
